My my, the internet shows how perception rules the earth, you see, hear, and read POtato, I see, hear, and read PoTAto.... Millions of people see, hear, and read the same item and all see something different. I try to see everyone's opinion and having some merit even though I disagree most of the time as I have explained before. I just don't see things like most other folks. Doesn't mean I'm wrong or they are right or vice versa. As frustrating as it may be at times, coasting the net for opinions still stimulates my love for the study of the human mind. Even this blog allows for responses that illustrate that people can perceive my thoughts and opinions totally different from their intent. I try to explain myself clearly but people are still lead to read into what they want and react from there. That's cool. That's why I named this blog rants and raves cause it's what is going through my head, based on my perceptions. Some will come and lay down an argument against my perception but rarely do I expect anyone to change my mind or me change anyone elses. Yet, that's the glory of millions of topic boards and discussions all over the net, people debating for days chiming in with their opinions cause someone else's opinion to them is without merit or 'oversimplied'. I have been very guilty of doing that in the past, heck that is how I learned that my perception of things is very different from most. What I had to learn is to be confident in that even thru the frustration and loniless. I still my throw about 4 cents of my opinion around a few topics. But mostly I will come here and state how I feel about what I perceive. My rants, my raves, my reality as I see it regardless of whether others agree or disagree. I too must struggle to honor that of others as well.

Well yet again, I classy, calm and mature reality show contestant that I like fell short of the top honor-Nik from America's Next Top Model(the other being Tamyra Gray from season 1). Being accused of having 'no personality'. That phrase is right up there with 'hatin' as one of my most despised internet phrases. Um, unless someone has a mental defect, he or she has a personality. They may not jump on coffee tables and beds and whine like the winner of this year's America's Next Top Model but being mature and classy is a personality trait. Why must everyone be so in your face and over the top or full of drama to gain a following?? Why can't people see the high quality in quiet dignity? Besides that, having met Tamyra Gray in person and seeing through the facade put forth by the ANTM editors, I can tell they both Tamyra and Nik are quite a bit of fun and have great personalities, they both just seem to carry themselves in a way befitting an adult, what's the crime in that? Is peeing in a diaper as Lisa did, what Nik should have done? Should she have found more reasons to argue and debate with people? I don't know but Nik made it clear she was there to take care of business and she focused and did what she had to do so if that transfered as 'no personality' or a push over w/ a 'gentle soul' as Twiggy put it, then that's indeed sad. Yeah some big personas are great-I love actress Jennifer Lewis's bold persona. I even like the fun loving confidence of Tocorra for example on ANTM. But it's ridiculous to think that Nicole's behavior demonstrated a better personality than Niks. Not everyone has to be a drama queen and making a complete idiot of themselves to have a personality.

"....you take everything to heart you need to calm down a bit....lighten up some too. "
This comment to one of my messages gave me my platform for this mornings blog. I wonder how much of an opinion of people do others have based just on posts on message boards. Does anyone really know enough about someone online to conclude this? Hopefully, the person thinks that is how i feel just about entertainment and nothing else. I will admit that you can learn about people about their posts on message boards but it normally about very limited facets of their lives. Yes, I want others to learn more about my opinions on the entertainment industry through this blog cause I can give a different viewpoint. But, as a disclaimer of sorts, please be clear, that what I or others consider entertaining is very irrelevant at the end of the day, it's just fun even though I may seem overly concerned. I may be more elaborate in presenting my thoughts than some others, that's just cause I like writing but I do have more important things to consider in life. The internet provides a diverse community of people that use it to discuss the more mundane of life. So no, I don't take things to heart about who got the number one song on the charts. Cause no artist whether I love them or hate them will pay my mortgage and utility bills. I just like discussing them online. lol. Peace.

It often feels like I am on an island in my thoughts about the entertainment industry. I was once challenged saying I purposefully wanted to disagree with people. Not so, no one knows how I agonize and just wish I was a Beyonce/Destiny's Child fan and thought she was as beautiful and great as others see her. I wish I would just be able to yield to the power of hip hop. Heck, it's not even about black culture, I don't get what the big deal is about Desparate Housewives. Something within me just doesn't click w/ popular culture. I find peace and happiness in forms of entertainment that are ignored by the masses, hence, it makes matters worse cause my favorite artists are seldom seen or heard or don't make CDs every 6 months. The shows I like on TV are often cancelled after 6 episodes. The actors I like couldn't buy a role. But as I write this and with all of that being said, I have no intension of a)conforming and accepting what's out there just not to be an outsider looking in and b)keeping my mouth shut just because my opinion is going to be different, if 10 mill people think 'Confessions' is a great CD, I will stand proudly amongst them and say it's overrated. Yeah, I get beat up alot online and I will bend but I will never break. I will just turn off the TV and watch my En Vogue performances DVD collection and ride down the streets of Atlanta while everyone else is bumping Usher, 50, and Destiny's Child and rock my 'Best of the Emotions' and my Natalie Cole greatest hit's volume one CD, I just found-what a gem!!!
Meeting my psycho social needs can be quite a frustrating venture but since I strive for talent and quality and artistic value, I will keep onward on my journey. One day maybe, I will become a billionaire, start my own TV, movies, fashion, and music empire and give artists I like an outlet. Although I feel sometimes that I am all alone, I know that there are others like me out there. Look at all the people that show up at Tom Joyner's sky shows and oldie but goodie concerts. I would love to set up a radio and TV outlet to support acts that seek quality over quantity. I don't have a problem neccesarily with quantity, just the fact that it seems that the lesser the quality, the more the quantity-frustrating indeed.
